There are plenty of great spots for fishing by the shore or you can rent a boat and enjoy a peaceful day of fishing on the loch.

To help you decide on where to try your luck, we’ve outlined some fantastic spots for catching freshwater fish in and around Loch Lomond. We’ll also outline information on fishing permits – when you need them and where to get them.

Fishing Spots In Loch Lomond

When fishing around Loch Lomond, you’ll experience the largest body of freshwater fish in the UK with the most vast variety of fish to catch, ranging from chub to sea trout. Loch Lomond is known for its difficulty in pike fishing, but is an excellent spot for coarse fishing.

Boats can be hired from Balmaha Boat Yard for those hoping to fish on the east, and from Balloch at the Loch Lomond Boat Hire for fishing on the south end. Please note: Loch Lomond is home to a protected species, the Powan, so ensure you do your research beforehand so if you catch this fish, you can put it straight back into the waters where it belongs.
