Things To Do In Loch Lomond And The Trossachs

Loch Lomond is one of the most recognisable attractions in the UK and is often one of the first things on many to-do lists when visiting the area. But, as beautiful as it is, there is actually so much more than the loch itself.

There is so much to see and do, from water sports and hikes to adventure courses and sea-life centres in Loch Lomond.

If you’re planning on visiting Loch Lomond and the Trossachs area, here are our suggestions of what you can do to make it as memorable a trip as possible.

Enjoy The Scenery And Outdoors With Walks And Hikes

Stunning views and tranquil sights immerse the entire loch, but with Loch Lomond having a surface area of over 70km², it would take over 20 hours to walk around the perimeter.

Thankfully, the surrounding area is bursting with more attainable walks and hikes, rich with dramatic views and natural beauty. You won’t have to go far to find something that suits your walking and hiking desires.

Ben Lomond – one of Scotland’s most famous Munros – can be found a short distance away, and for those looking for more of a challenge, this one is for you.

The Munro offers both a ‘tourist trail’ for those newer to hikes and Ptarmigan Ridge – the more challenging route up and down – for the more experienced.

Regardless of the route you take, you’ll not miss the beautiful views of the Trossachs and the islands in the loch – truly breathtaking sights.

If you are looking for more of a quick hike, you will also find Conic Hill. More of a leisurely walk, where those ascending will be rewarded with similarly stunning views after around 45 minutes.

Whether you take one of the more established hikes and bag yourself a Munro, decide to take a stroll off the beaten path, or visit a country park or forest, one thing is for sure – you’ll find some of the most beautiful sights you’ll ever see.

Feel The Adrenaline With A Loch Lomond Adventure

For those looking for some more organised fun – or maybe a bit of a rush – there are many attractions around the loch to get your fill. There is even plenty to do with the kids if you are on a family trip. Whether you want to keep your feet on the ground or soar through the air, you’ll find something that suits everyone along the Loch Lomond shores.

Why not go climbing and experience the views from a different viewpoint? Or, if climbing isn’t your thing, do the opposite and try abseiling and traverse down some of the surfaces – ranging from beginner to expert.

One of the more popular attractions in the area is the In Your Element experiences that offer all of the above and their particularly popular Tree Zone. Here you can take in the views from up in the air while zipping up, down and across the treetops.

If you prefer to stay closer to the ground, we offer many exciting adventures, too. We’ve got you covered, from bike rides and 4×4 adventures to pony treks and Segway safaris. You can find out more about these and others on our Land Activities page.

Whichever adventure you choose while visiting Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, you can be confident that it will be a memorable one.

Make A Splash With Water Sports And Activities

As much as there is to do on land, why not experience Loch Lomond’s most prominent feature – the loch itself.

On any given day, you’ll be sure to find just about every water sport you can imagine on the loch: water-skiing, wakeboarding, fishing and kayaking, to name but a few.

Many of the above, with some more exclusive activities such as speed boat trips for some excitement, and even a champagne cruise for a more luxurious experience, can be arranged by us. You can find out more about these and other activities on our Loch Activities page.

If water sports aren’t your thing, you can always simply go for a swim. You’ll find many locals in the loch in the mornings and even more so on a sunny day. However, if you are going for a swim in the loch, always make sure that safety comes first.

Take In Scotland With The Surrounding Towns And Villages

Speaking of the locals, there are many populated areas around the loch and the Trossachs area – each with its own charm and attraction.

Right at the foot of the loch, you’ll find Balloch, which brings a more modern experience to its visitors while still having that traditional charm. Balloch is home to Lomond Shores, which offers a great selection of experiences and activities.

One such attraction is the Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre. Here you’ll discover an amazing underwater world that lets you get up close and personal with the sea life. Whether you are planning to watch the otters or learn about the seahorses, it’s sure to be a truly memorable experience.

Suppose you feel like doing a bit of shopping. In that case, there are many stores where you’ll find everything from designer clothes and fine Scottish whiskies to sporting goods and jewellery. It brings the high street to a properly quaint Scottish town.

However, if you’re looking for a ‘real’ Scottish town experience, you can visit Luss. With a population of less than 500 and boasting some truly remarkable Scottish architecture, this famous little town will give you an unforgettable experience of true small-town Scottish life. You can also get what is called by some the best ice cream in the country, which is arguably worth the visit alone.

We want to make sure you have an unforgettable experience during your visit, and that’s why we can help with many of the activities we’ve mentioned above. However, it doesn’t stop there.
